Carpet Stain Removal Tips

Beer, Wine, Cola, Coffee

Blot with a paper towel.  Then neutralize with a white vinegar solution made up of 1/4 cup white vinegar and 3/4 cup lukewarm water.  Soak the spot and then blot.  If stain does not come out, call a professional carpet cleaner.

Berries or Fruit Juice

Use a dull knife to scrape up excess spill.  If spot is dry, saturate with water..  Mix 1/2 teaspoon dish soap in 1 quart water.  Apply to spot and blot.  Continue to blot until no more can be removed.  Rinse area with water using spray bottle and blot.  If stain does not come out, call a professional carpet cleaner.

Blood, Ketchup, Vomit

Blot as much as possible then neutralize with an ammonia solution made up of 1 tablespoon ammonia and 3/4 cup water.  Use  a spray bottle to saturate the spot with the ammonia solution.  Blot with a white paper towel.  All solutions removing blood should be cold.  Mix 1 quart water and 1/2 teaspoon dish soap.  Apply detergent solution and then blot.  Keep blotting until no more can be removed.  If stain does not come out, call professional carpet cleaner.

Chewing Gum, Contact Cement or Glue

Take an ice cube and apply.  This will freeze the gum, etc.  Shatter the frozen gum with the handle of a knife.  Then vacuum.  If gum is not removed, call a professional carpet cleaner.

Chocolate

Scrape excess up and blot with paper towel.  Neutralize with the ammonia solution (see above).  Use a spray bottle to saturate the spot with the ammonia solution.  Blot with a white paper towel.  If stain has not lifted, mix a solution of 1 quart water and 1/2 teaspoon dish soap.  Continue to blot.  If stain does not lift, call a professional carpet cleaner.

Crayon, Paint or Makeup

Remove as much as possible by blotting with a paper towel.  Apply rubbing alcohol to a white cloth or cotton ball and blot.  Use dish soap solution (see above) and blot.  If stain is not lifted, call a professional carpet cleaner.
